Avoid special trips to the supermarket. Try to have your food delivered to your home. Delivery avoids impulse buying which is often wasteful and can reduce local air pollution.

In the week of the start of a global Climate Strike intended to raise awareness that life cannot go on as it has before, our Eco Tip highlights that many small changes are needed to effect great global change. We must remember that in making these small changes we are not ‘fixing the problem’. Only by coordinated and urgent action across society can we begin to amend for the wrongs that have been done to the earth.

This sister now cries out to us because of the harm we have inflicted on her by our irresponsible use and abuse of the goods with which God has endowed her. The great changes we are wreaking in the ecosystems of the earth are not only going to affect our children. They will affect almost all who live today. Their malign effects are beginning to be seen in the increasing frequency of adverse weather events. Global migrations of people with needs for refuge and just treatment are in part driven by Global Heating.

The science doesn’t mainly speak of “great opportunities to create the society we always wanted”.

It tells of unspoken human sufferings, which will get worse and worse the longer we delay action – unless we start to act now. And yes, of course a sustainable transformed world will include lots of new benefits…. But you have to understand… this is above all an emergency, and not just any emergency.

This is the biggest crisis humanity has ever faced.
