Meet Bubble and Squeak

Meet Bubble and Squeak

The knitted mice of St. John the Baptist Church.

We are pleased to announce that St. Johns have acquired their own knitted mice who are exploring the church and telling the story of the building, its furnishing and the objects it contains through their eyes. As the months go by, they will move around the church and hopefully visitors will enjoy finding where they are and taking photographs! It is also planned that Bubble and Squeak will have company from time to time as they will be joined by other mice friends associated with the time of the year.

Eventually it is hoped that Bubble and Squeak’s friends will visit All Saints church so the children can look for them there and even choose some names for them!

Mice have always been associated with churches. The Church mice books written by Graham Oakley have entertained children for decades, John Betjeman wrote The Diary of a Church Mouse, and of course we have all heard of the expression “being as poor as a church mouse”.

For those who would like their very own knitted mouse together with Bubble and Squeak’s business card and a small piece of chocolate (mice like to eat chocolate) they can be purchased through the parish office (office@acnb-church.org or 023 8073 7617). They will also be on sale at various events at All Saints Church. All proceeds from the sale of the mice go to the upkeep of the church.
