Community Remembers: V WWI Poppy Cascade Update

Over the Top: the North Baddesley project to knit poppies for a cascade down the tower at St John the Baptist saw the 2000th poppy donated this week. It’s going to be a spectacular way of commemorating the end of WWI. Thank you so much to everyone who is helping,

Visit the project page:

We’ve been touched by the number of people in the village and in craft groups who have taken the time to knit poppies - whether one or ten. Please keep knitting for a few weeks longer, as we could do with a few hundred more poppies to make a really fitting commemoration.

What is going on?

Over the Top will run between 4th and 17th of November this year. Throughout the time the church will be open. There will be displays of war poetry and a photography exhibition focusing on the aftermath of war and the plight of refugees. We have opportunities to respond planned including origami doves which we will hang in an array in church. Children will be invited to chalk on the miniature war horse made by the Men’s Shed.
